Damn, this is fuggin' Cool!

For those of who have wondered if the future military end up looking like Starship Troopers, you were right. Troy Hurtubise the man who made the suit for bear attacks has streamlined his suit so he can get a military contract.
He has spent two years and $15,000 in the lab out back of his house in North Bay, designing and building a practical, lightweight and affordable shell to stave off bullets, explosives, knives and clubs. He calls it the Trojan and describes it as the "first ballistic, full exoskeleton body suit of armour."

Doesn't he look like a cylon?

Hail to the King baby!

Today is Martin Luther kings's Birthday(observed)! It seems there's a lot the Black Community has to work on though. New Orleans is still a mess. Crime has still been on the rise in the city since the hurricane hit the city. The only thing they have going for them right now is the fact that the Saints have been having a great year and might make it to the Super Bowl. If they do win it will make a great ending for the movie they'll make about Katrina later.

Wii + Subway Diet = Go to the Gym.

As many of you know the Wii is the new jazzercise. There have been copious articles of people actually breaking a sweat and breaking themselves. One blogger is even trying to lose weight with as a News Year's Resolution! Strangely enough this isn't the first time a company tried to pawn off their product to fitness wannabes. Subway was known for having Jared Fogle tell everyone how healthy Subway food is.

Makes me wonder if you'll see people do Wii in the Park the way you see people do Tai chi in the park.

Let's have some cow!

Today is Where's the Beef Day. The infamous commercial that made the whole nation laugh. This could be looked at as more unusal memes that ran across our culture. Even Walter Mondale agreees!

Reach for the Sky!

The first full week of January is always National Law Enforcement Week. During this time we see the boys in blue get the training they to serve and protect. It's also to pull me over every time one of headlights go out. This week was founded by President George Bush Sr. and it recognized by all law officer in America.

Also this week is brought to you by Crayola Crayons. This is Perfect timing in my life since I have a few late New Years Cards to write to a few friends. (Don't worry I'll ge to you.)

The King Remembered.

Today is the day Elvis Presley was born. He still lives on in his music. Not in a trailer outside Madison, WI like some would like us to believe.

It's also National English Toffee Day! A few good recipes and are provided to you today by cooks.com.

Ah yes. Elvis and toffee does get any better?

Glow Piggies!

Yet another news article proving scientists won't be satisfied until they make every creature in the animal kingdom glow in the dark.
The researchers hope the pigs will boost the island's stem cell research, as well as helping with the study of human disease.

The scientists, from National Taiwan University's Department of Animal Science and Technology, say that although the pigs glow, they are otherwise no different from any others.

If I tried to eat them would the bacon and ham glow as well?

this post was done my pda web browser

The one site I used to go to The Fourth Rail.com is apparently defunct now. However, the two reviewers, Don MacPherson and Randy Lander, have now gone on to their own sites. Don has gone on to EyeonComics.com and Randy has gone on to Comicpants.com. The former site has the better layout but the latter has podcasts. I think I like theirs better than Fanboy Radio but I've only listened to one episode. Much to the credit of FR they've had a long list comic writers and artists and writers. I think both of these are great becuase provide a few more outlets for comic book fans to speak. Especially myself since I've never a big fan of the DC Forums
update: Not bad for a first I have errors in html and grammar but pretty good.

Who is Your Mentor?

It's National Mentor Month in January spearheaded by MENTOR. For a little information on them go to Mentor.org.
For more than a decade, MENTOR/National Mentoring Partnership has been working to expand the world of quality mentoring. MENTOR believes that, with the help and guidance of an adult mentor, each child can discover how to unlock and achieve his or her potential. MENTOR is widely acknowledged as the nation's premier advocate and resource for the expansion of mentoring initiatives nationwide.

Jan. 5th is also National Bird Day. About.com has a little on this day and how it got started. For information about go to the Animal Protection Institute and the Aviation Welfare Coalition. Keep an eye out for those birds!

I would also like to point out for those of with New Years Resolutions can go to 10millionresolutions.com and put down you resolution. Who know I might actually keep mine. For those of in need of a little motivation I bring to you the Mountain Goats with their song, This Year.

Gloom or Opium?* Predictions Round Up.

As you know many people make predictions about the next year and I love hearing about predictions. My brother misread the title of a blog post about the new year so put that as the title for my post. So here is a little round up for any other armchair prognosticators!

Wired make their predictions some of which are fairly obvious.

Digg has a post up about predictions for Google. I swear if Larry Page and Sergey Brin sneeze loudly enough half the Internet mutates and the other half goes extinct.

For you political junkies out there go over to Politicalbetting.com. (Mostly for the UK though.)

I don't really go on this site but I found it while making this post. I give the guy credit because he remarked about his previous predictions.

John Campea of The Movie Blog shows us his Top 10 most Anticipated of 2007.

Pat Robertson is Gloomiest of all the predictions I've heard so far.

NewAssignment.com also hashttp://www2.blogger.com/img/gl.link.gif a few predictions for 2007 and I'm glad they do. I almost forgot they existed.

For a little clarity on prediction madness you can always read this on Bad Analysis. In this post they look at all the crazy things people said last year and point out how you souldn't have really been paying attention to them any way.

Finally, the Trends Research Journal has a few predictions of their own, of course. I can only hope I end up working for these people some day.

*This site does not advocate the use of opium.

New Years Day

Today is New Years Day! Now is the time to shake off the party hangover and get down to business this January. There are quite a few things to look forward to in the New Year.

It's also Human Resources Month a topic Dilbert has had quite a lot of fun with.

Lastly, January is also known as Cervical Cancer Month. Be sure to donate a little to a this fine organization first chance you get.

Good luck in the New Year to you where ever you are. If need any help on this Resolutions just check out 43things!
